A Book Sparks a Prayer Movement in Mongolia

Mongolia – the home of the infamous Genghis Khan and his formidable conquering army centuries ago. In 1921, resistance to the Chinese revolution, backed by the Soviet Army, led to the formation of a communist government. This made Mongolia the first Asian and the second country in the world (after Russia) to adopt communism. When the Soviet Union disbanded in 1990, Mongolia became the first country in Asia to successfully transition into democracy from communist rule.

From that time, Christians have grown from a handful to an estimated 60-70,000 today, out of a population of around 3.5 million. In the last few years, over 5000 people have come to Christ through evangelism in both cities and remote regions. Now it appears that the Holy Spirit is initiating a prayer movement in the nation, that has the potential to bring an even greater harvest.

When we released our new book How to Pray – and Change Your World in 2022, we prayed that the Lord would take it far and wide and light a fire of prayer in all who read it. Assuming this would happen as we took it to the nations we ministered in, we were surprised that the Lord had other ideas. A copy fell into the hands of Marlon Stufkens, a New Zealand missionary working in Mongolia. He sent it to Pastor Altankhuyag Ganbaatar, (known as Hoiga for short) who asked to translate it. The excellent translation was completed in late 2022 and between us, Marlon, and our home church, Church Unlimited, enough funds were raised to print 5000 copies.

After all 5000 had been given away to pastors and church members, another 5000 were printed. Pastor Hoiga reported recently, “The first edition of 5,000 books was distributed in rural provinces, while the last edition, 5,000 books, was distributed in Ulannbaatar [the capital city]. So far, a total of 9,510 books has been distributed in Mongolia. 490 books are being kept for delivery to the easternmost provinces of Mongolia.”

 
 

10,000 books on prayer will make a huge difference to mission in Mongolia. Hoiga further reports, “Many churches share teachings from this book, and it has become a desk book for many pastors. I firmly believe that through this book many churches will rise up with prayer and be blessed in Mongolia.” All this has left us amazed at what the Lord has done. It is a fulfilment of Ephesians 3:20: “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power at work within us.”

But wait there is more. Some pastors are now taking the book into Russia, China, and Kazakhstan, and teaching from it.  Pastor Hoiga is now requesting that another 5000 copies be printed for Mongolia, and we will fund raise to help with this.
